Rest

Last night, it was revealed to me how important rest is, and I don't mean simply physical rest. Emotionally and spiritually, everyone needs rest. What I mean by that is, emotionally, people need to talk or journal about what is going on in their lives in order to release tension and to deal with things that are going on in life. Spiritually, it means that we have to be in the word and really dwell on the things and promises the Lord says.

I am thankful I am beginning a weekend of rest. I hope to come back from this camping trip refreshed and rejuvenated. I will try to sit and wait on the Lord's voice and to really enjoy the nature surrounding me. Here's to seeing the Lord and learning what rest is.

Joshua 1:9

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." ~Joshua 1:9

These words are such encouragement, no matter what time or season of life I find myself in. The first part is the kicker though, the Lord commanded me! It wasn't a suggestion or an option, but a command. I need to be strong and courageous because the Lord is with me wherever I go. Wow! What a reality check.

No matter what I do, where I go, or who I meet, God is always with me. The word always has never meant more to me than it does recently. As I look back over my life, there are only a couple of moments where "always" really has meant "always". My parents said they would always love me (and they do). I said always on my wedding day (and I cannot be happier that I did) and almost 4 years later I still mean it with all my heart. And last, God said He would ALWAYS be there for me, and He really, truly is.

As I get older, I find that commitments from the Lord become more real and meaningful to me because I know the value of a commitment. The Lord has made a covenant with his people to be merciful in wrath and to be loving in judgement. I thank the Lord for what He has shown me and what He has yet to teach me.

"Praise and glory and wisdom and thanks and honor and power and strength to our God for ever and ever. Amen!" ~Rev. 7:12

Psalm 86

Hear, O Lord, and answer me, for I am poor and needy. Guard my life, for I am devoted to you. You are my God; save your servant who trusts in you. Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I call to you all day long, Bring joy to your servant, for you, O Lord, I lift up my soul.

You are for forgiving and good, O Lord, abounding in love to all who call to you. Hear my prayer, O Lord; listen to my cry for mercy. In the day of my trouble I will call to you, for you will answer me.

Among the gods there is none like you, O Lord; no deeds can compare with yours. All the nations you have made will come and worship before you, O Lord; they will bring glory to your name. For you are great and do marvelous deeds; you alone are God.

Teach me your way, O Lord, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name. I will praise you, O Lord my God, will all my heart; I will glorify your name forever. For great is your love toward me; you have delivered me from the depths of the grave.

The arrogant are attacking me, O God; a band of ruthless men seeks my life-men without regard for you. But you, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness. Turn to me and have mercy on me; grant your strength to your servant and save the son of your maidservant. Give ma sign of your goodness, that my enemies may see it and be put to shame, for you, O Lord, have helped me and comforted me.
